False name during traffic stop?

my sister used my other sisters name during a traffic stop. it was only for not coming to a complete stop at a stop sign. but, her license was suspended due to unpaid tolls from a friend borrowing her car. she had been notified of the suspension a few days earlier. at the time of the traffic stop, she was working as a nanny %26amp; had a child in the car. she thought she would only receive a warning, unless she used her real information %26amp; would be arrested %26amp; the child taken into protective custody until the parents could pick her up. the childs father is a police officer. i understand that was not a great decision, thats not what i want comments on. it was only a stop sign. we are debating whether to tell my sister who now has a traffic ticket to her name %26amp; possibly telling the truth or just paying it. will my sister be charged w/any serious crimes? to be clear, i know its a crime. i dont know to what degree the crime is %26amp; what the penalties are. if only people w/specific knowledge on the subject would answer that would be great. thanks.False name during traffic stop?
I hope your sister has a good relationship with the sister who's name she gave. What she did in addition to providing false information to a police officer (which carries a 30 day jail term in my state) she stole another persons identity for personal gain which is a FELONY.False name during traffic stop?
its called falsifying information given to police, im sure its not good, as for what could come of it, would depend on sister that is now getting a ticket will treat it, if she is pissed off enough, she can press charges!!
Yeah, its a crime, and despite what you may think, all crimes are serious.

You have several options:

1) Pay the ticket and forget it - not a good one if the sister gets another ticket or it shows up on her insurance. You can't hire a traffic lawyer on her behalf to try to get the ticket completely wiped off without making things worse by claiming you are her again.

2) Tell your sister - She'll probably be furious, but unless she isn't close at all to her other sister, do you really think she is going to turn her in? You should do more than simply pay the ticket, you should pay for a lawyer too so that her sister might get the ticket reduced to a non-moving violation if possible. This is actually the only way I see to both make everything right without disclosing what she did to authorities

3) Hire a lawyer to advise you on how to best proceed. The advice here may be to not do anything other than paying the ticket, but that leaves a ticket on your other sister's record. Or it might be the lawyer will contact authorities and work to get the situation resolved and hope that the prosecutor goes easy on you since you turned yourself in. I don't know, too many variables which could include things like the attitude of the prosecutors office.

4) Turn herself in without a lawyer. This is extremely stupid.

Regardless, I doubt she would do any jail time over something like this though. So long as this is a first offense.
The sister that was driving really needs to tell the sister that ';got the ticket'; about this situation!

In NY running a stop sign is a point violation, if she was close to a suspended license ... this violation ';she'; got might put her over.

If this little bit of stupidity is ever discovered by the police ... the driver could be charged with any one of several crimes, mostly misdemeanors. Her job as a nanny for a police officer would be over.

The driver really pulled a dumb stunt ... she might get away with it, but I'll bet she did real damage to her relationship with her sister.
YEAH! Jail time can come out of lieing to the police.

BIG fines also and a criminal record as a lier.

At the time it probably dident seem so bad.

Everything will always catch up with you in the end.

So be honest and learn from mistakes.
