Should false rape accusers be ';named and shamed';?

Should women who falsely claim rape have their pictures and names placed on websites and the like, just as sex offenders and ';deadbeat dads'; have their names and likenesses posted?Should false rape accusers be ';named and shamed';?
The FBI has determined that a significant number of rape claims are in fact false. The majority of course are not, and all claims should be investigated.

Should the false accuser be named? I suppose if the man's name was given, then this would be fair.

I definitely think the false accuser should be charged, fined, and sentenced to the same extent that the falsely accused man was. If he did 2 years before it was determined he was innocent, then she does 2 years.

Rape is a hideous crime, and anyone who accuses someone of committing rape as a means of getting revenge is very disturbed, and is also criminal.Should false rape accusers be ';named and shamed';?
my husband is on bail until 28/05/09 as his ex of 11 years,2 children together,and tattoo shops together has cried rape.we are going through hell because of these false allegations.she is now a dominatrix her new partner a transvetite,n police,social services cant see why we worried

Report Abuse

Why only false rape accusers? Why not ALL people who falsely accuse others of a crime?

Anyway, I'm going to say no, on the basis that failing to get a conviction doesn't automatically mean the person is innocent. And if people automatically got ';named and shamed'; whenever the defense won, the result would be that you'd have a nation full of people who are afraid to press charges for anything. Rape in particular is extremely difficult to prove, so probably you'd end up punishing a lot of legitimate rape victims who just didn't have enough physical evidence to make their case. However, if it can be 100% PROVEN that an accusation is false (which would be equally difficult), then the person who made it should get punished in some way.
It makes more sense than naming and shaming men accused of rape who are found innocent. However it is probably better for everyone's identity to be kept confidential until proof of guilt is established. Of course if they ever make it a crime to make a false rape accusation, then false accusers should be named and also given a jail sentence because an accusation of rape can totally destroy a man's life. I notice that feminists spend a lot of time campaigning to close women's prisons and increasing convictions for rape, but spend no time discouraging false accusations.
False accusers should be MORE than simply named and shamed. They should be sentenced to the same amount of time the man would have done if he were found guilty of what she accused him of, and then put on a registry of false accusers which would be available to the publc.

These liars are just as dispicable as child molesters and should be treated as such.
yes

they not only make life a living hell for those they falsely accuse, but they make actual rapes less believable

they should probably also be put on antipsychotics...you know someone that makes up that kind of stuff has serious mental probs

EDIT:

emily...what are your your fat, ugly, i can only get a guy by sucking up sources?

according to http://lawprofessors.typepad.com/crimpro鈥?/a>

Several interesting articles on sexual assault. The first is by CrimProf Michelle J. Anderson of Villanova, one of the legal academy's most perceptive and prolific scholars in this area. Her latest work The Legacy of the Prompt Complaint Requirement, Corroboration Requirement, and Cautionary Instructions on Campus Sexual Assault proposes a number of reforms to make institututional discipline more efficient. (CrimProf blogged an expose of UVa's system). One startling point in the paper was that no reliable statistics exist on the frequency of false rape claims: ';As a scientific matter, the frequency of false rape complaints to police or other legal authorities remains unknown.'; (See pages 33-35). Professor Anderson's conclusion is noteworthy in light of the often repeated claim of advocates that this information is known definitively: ';false accusations account for only 2% of all reported sexual assaults. This is no higher than false reports for other crimes.';

btw..as you say the fbi says a good share of rapes are false...the cia tells me your father is also your brother
Most assuredly they should. To accuse a man of rape literally ruins his life. Any woman who falsely accuses a guy of rape should certainly be ';named and shamed.';

The key word here being ';falsely accused.'; If the rape allegations are true then the perp should be castrated, end of discussion.
i remember that college in which feminists put up posters of random, innocent male students saying ';potential rapist';

perhaps someone should put up pics of random, innocent female students saying ';potential false rape accuser';

the guilty ones certainly should be named and shamed (and imprisoned). far too many get off with it by pleading ';womyn mental issues';
Hell yeah. A falsely accused rapist is still viewed as a rapist in the eyes of SO many. It's a stigma that will follow the poor schmo for years.
Yes, according to feminist figures AT LEAST 50% of rape reports are false. So there needs to be ways found to stop these people using theses laws as a weapon.

Since there are only a few of the actual accuser that are making a false claim what would this action prove? Just because they are not believed does not make the claim false.
Yes they should be. They should also be sentenced to lengthy prison terms.
Yes.. They also deserve to be severely punish because they can ruin an innocent man life.
Yes. They should be punished.
In these times of equal rights,it should be done .Please go ahead and do it.
If they are proven to be liars, yes. They should go to jail, as well.
