Is it ethical for a vendor to enter a chat room of its competitor and pose queries under a false name?

It is to a certian extent. Marketing in itself os always highly unethical as people are always trying to say that their product is better and trying to make the other product look bad. It happens in many forms and this is just one. So as far as buisness ethics go its in the linesIs it ethical for a vendor to enter a chat room of its competitor and pose queries under a false name?
I believe so, as long as they aren't, for example, breaking forum rules by doing so. It's no different then contrasting their products in a press release. On the other hand, if word gets out about it, it will probably still look bad for the company posting the questions.

If this is used as an attempt to gain trade secrets, it's a) hopeless and b) highly unethical
