Do you think people who make false claims of rape should be named and shamed?

- Following the latest allegation made to former Blue Peter presenter John Leslie where as the claims have proven to be lies; Do you agree with me that these people who make these claims of rape should be named publicly and prosecuted?Do you think people who make false claims of rape should be named and shamed?
Yes I do...very strongly so. I also believe that in any allegation of rape the man should not be named unless found guilty beyond reasonable doubt. It is totally unfair for a man to have his name, and picture, splashed all over the media, and then for him to be found innocent but the person who accused him retains their status of anonymity....they should have their lives ruined as much as the innocent man's life has been ruined. Each and every person who makes a false claim of rape should also be prosecuted for wasting police time.Do you think people who make false claims of rape should be named and shamed?
I'd like to agree ... but I don't know. I personally know six women who have been raped, three when they were children.

One was a friend, who was so humiliated by what she had gone through, that she couldn't face the trauma of a court case. The mother of one of the children did not prosecute, (he was the grandfather) because of the effect it would have on the grandmother. It ripped her family apart.

So if people were named and shamed, it would affect innocent victims, who would be even more reluctant to step forward.

I think that yes, they should be charged with perjury, which is and always has been, a crime. But naming and shaming someone so publically would prejudice people against all victims and cause speculation about their honesty.

But then of course, with most court cases, there is usually someone telling lies - the burglar who pleads ';not gulty';, the murderer who says ';innocent';.

Maybe that charge should automatically be entered when they are found guilty.

Edit: I agree though, that men should retain their anonymity while the case is ongoing.
Those who falsely claim rape (and I'm not doubting they exist), should be prosecuted for wasting police time, if nothing else. I DON'T believe that they should be publicly named.

But what about those cases simply where prosecution was unsuccessful? Are you planning to name %26amp; prosecute those for not having enough evidence?
Yes i do agree with you. Its because of people like them that genuine people are not believed or will not report rape for the fear of being called a liar. The poor men going through the false allegations can lose so much because someone had a grudge or didnt get the attention they wanted.
Yes I do agree. Those people who make false claims do a lot of damage to the real victims of rape and they also damage a mans reputation therefore they should be prosecuted and the public should be aware of who they are.
many cases of rape are thrown out due to lack of evidence

just because it wasnt proven dosent mean it wasent true

in cases of pure spite where the person admits it was a lie then yes
Prosecuted, Then Persecuted
In cases where the 'victim' is proven to be a liar, then yes.
yes..they sometimes are..but i agree with you.whole heartedly.mary.c.
Maybe not always, but surely sometimes.
yes..............and then thrown into a mental health institution, clearly they are nutters
i don't think its fair that an innocent man's name can be dragged through the mud while the liar remains nameless...
