Why do so many Christians have this false impression that the name of Jesus is a rare name?

It's a historical fact that the name of Jesus,or,in Hebrew Y'shua, was a very common name in first century Palestine. Why are so many Christians ignorant of that fact?Is it because of what the angel Gabriel told the Virgin Mary about the annunciation of Jesus' birth and what his name would be,and, why that was his name?Incidentally,it's not a rare name among Hispanics.A lot of Hispanic men are called Jesus, which they pronounce Hesus. Why do so many Christians have this false impression that the name of Jesus is a rare name?
I don't know but you are correct. If you read the writings of Jewish history by Flavius Josephus (also a Jew) you will find that it was as common as John or Tom today. Why do so many Christians have this false impression that the name of Jesus is a rare name?
It's also interesting to note that,in my current Bible,Barabbas, the man that Pilate freed at Jesus Christ's trial and Crucifixion,in the gospel of Matthew,is called Jesus bar Abbas. Also, in the same bible, there's an Old Testament apocryphal book called the Wisdom of Jesus, son of Sirach.

The Fact that He Is the Messiah is what Made Him Stand out, right down to His lineage that Had to be very accurate for the Jewish Temple records and the Census that was taken by the Romans....Some maybe ignorant of that fact, i'm not. The Messiah needed to fit in and they also took off for Egypt, where they could blend in to escape Herod's wrath against the innocent children and babies too.
actually you are wrong Jesus is just the Greek translation of Joshua or Jahoshua. Y' shua is another name for God who Jesus is. yes i agree with that. He is God and Y';shua is also his Divine name. you are right Jesus is a common name. the Hebrews would say Joshua the Greeks say Jesus and the Spics say Jesus( Hesus). I hope you aren't arguing against his deity because that is not proof at all.
The name ';jesus'; in the nt is actually less than 400 years old.

The oldest Greek manuscripts do not give a name, the word ';christos'; is used which is the Greek word for anointed. A title not a name. ';J'; was not even an accepted English letter until after 1630. The original 1611 King James version renders a name of IEsous - which is the Greek goddess of healing. Other English version render a name as I Zeus or IEZeus, the Greek father of gods.
Yes, Jesus was a common name during that time. But no other Jesus was called ';Christ';, which means Messiah.

G5547

Χριστός

Christos

khris-tos'

From G5548; anointed, that is, the Messiah, an epithet of Jesus: - Christ.
im not ignorant, but obviously you are when you say that there are alot of hispanics with the name jesus. it is the same with the name maria, it is because most hispanics are catholic.
Jesus is a rare Savior. Jesus had a rare life, died a rare death. He is in competition with no one.

His Name is honored by Christians because of who He is.
I'm Mexican.Half my cousins have ';Jesus'; either as a first name, first middle name, second middle name, third middle name, fourth middle name...
any who read the bible would know it was not in Jesus' time and as you say many still use a copy of it but not in most english speaking countries where we use the name Jesus only for our Lord.
They think it's rare because they grew up in a place where it is rare. Ask someone who grew up in Central America and they'll tell you a different answer.
Actually i've met plenty of Mexican Jesus'. Why does the name matter? It's what he did, not what's he's called.
Christians are well aware that Jesus, Joseph, John and several other names were very common in the first century.
The main religion among Hispanics, is Christianity.
I agree it's kind of weird. Also they think the word itself has some kind of magical power like abra cadabra or something.
This is really catty. lol We don't worship Jesus because we think He has a rare name, we worship Him because He is God.
I am not aware that I or other Christians have an impression that ';Jesus'; is a rare name.

Why is this important, again?
Yeshua, Emmanuel. u have a small circle of friends.
I didn't know we did that. First I heard of it.

There are many people, just as you said, with the name Jesus.

However, there was only one Jesus Christ, and he had other names:

Master, Savior, Redeemer, Rose of Sharon, Lily of the Valley, Bright and Morning Star, etc. God made Flesh. Son of the Almighty God. He is the only one crucified, died,

descended, resurrected and ascended who resurrects us who were dead in trespasses and sins to where we are acceptable to God. That is the

Jesus with whom Christians are concerned , the one they serve.

I think Hispanics call pronounce it ';hey soos'; .I think the empasis is on the first syllable. I apologize in advance if incorrect.
