People in AA: Why do some people in there use false names?

I know a girl in Alcoholics Anonymous that uses a false name. Her name is really Andrea but she goes by Katie. Why do you think she does this?

Is that a common thing in AA?People in AA: Why do some people in there use false names?
I once knew a man in AA named CB. CB stood for Cowboy, a double alias. Just like you, I wondered why someone would go to such lengths in AA to remain anonymous. Later, after he was arrested for car theft we found out he was running from the law in another state. So, be careful of AA's who wont use their real names. We AA's are suppose to remain anonymous at the public level, not in our home-groups.People in AA: Why do some people in there use false names?

Ummm DUH!!!!

to hide her identity. She is obviously embarrassed that she needs to go to AA.
Probably because it's anonymous. She really wants to assure that nobody can figure out who she is/ what her problem is.
No, it is not common. The one thing all AAs know is that to get sober and stay that way, self-honesty is first above all. Fail that, and you won't stay sober.
