What can happen if you leave your ID at home and you give the police officer a false name?

I'm really curious as to what could happen, because my friends always talk about doing it when they get caught jaywalking across the street to the campus, and there's very often a Fullerton police officer waiting at the corner of the campus driveway to stop and cite students that cross over from the apartment complex in the middle of the road when they are supposed to go down to the crosswalk to cross legally. One time my friend was walking with me to campus and we decided to jaywalk, and I was like dude I don't want a ticket, and he was like just say your name is ';Brad Thompson'; or something like that! What would the officer do if something like that was to happen? What can happen if you leave your ID at home and you give the police officer a false name?
first, telling a lie to a police officer is not a crime in and of itself ( stupid, but not a crime) However, tell a lie to a deputy sheriff and it is a crime. Lieing to an executive officer.

Now, on the other, if he can prove it ( I always called in for a description of the person named, and have even gone so far as to have dispatch call the listed phone number for that person if I feel suspicious of the person giving the name.) You should see the look on the persons face when dispatch radios and tells me they are talking to that person on the phone. what it boils down too, is, You would be charged with obstructing a police officer in the performance of his duties, a misdomeanor. What can happen if you leave your ID at home and you give the police officer a false name?
In California, it's a misdemeanor. See Penal Code 148.9.

Also, if you do not have ID, the officer will likely ask you name, DOB, address, etc., then run the info through DMV. If the info you gave doesn't match a driver's license, you'll get a 148.9 in addition to a jaywalking citation.
Providing false information to the police is usually a misdemeanor (in California, at least). The cop might ask you for further details, and if you get caught you'll be charged with perjury in addition to whatever you did.
he will tell all his friends, and the next time you'll be shot on sight.
He'll probably do a check to make sure your information is correct before he issues a citation. When it comes back, your friend just turned a violation into a misdemeanor and a night in jail. Giving a peace officer a false name or address is a crime.
False information to Police is a misdemeanor, punishable up to 90 days in jail and up to $1000 fine. I always thin it is funny when some idiot lies about his name, then finds out that person has warrants! I laugh EVERY single time!!!! Then after they have sat in jail going through the whole process for the full 4-8 hours they get to go home.....

So if you try it, enjoy.
Hey Randy C.........

#1...Lying to a police officer IS a crime.

#2...It's spelled misdemeanor

Back to the academy please
It is no crime if you have not done anything wrong. You don't even have to give your name. However, if the officer is attempting to give a citation and you provide false information you just commited Obstruction. Why don't you just use the crosswalk? If you get caught why don't you man up and just give your name? What are you...in a gang or something? You and your friends are cool!
you would eventually be caught and put on death row.
